Definition of types of garages
Concrete Sectional Garages
Prefab concrete sectional garages are usually either detached garages or double garages.
Battery Garages
Battery garages are used as lock up garages and have a concrete wall dividing one from the other to offer garage security. Garage rent is charged by the owner for the use of these battery garages.
Detached Garages
Detached garages are available in an apex or pent style having usually a steel up and over door made by garage door manufacturers like Henderson, Horman etc. or either half glazed timber doors or full timber doors.
Double Garages
Double prefab concrete garages are mostly single span garages with 2 up and over garage doors.
The Double prefabricated sectional concrete garage is usually fitted with two windows either fixed or opening in either timber or PVCu and can be single or double glazed.
Garage Doors
The main up and over garage doors come in various sizes e.g in an 8’ wide garage they would be 7ft wide, any garage over 8ft wide then 8ft wide doors are usually fitted unless you require one central garage door then in say a 16ft wide double garage you could have a single 14ft. wide door in a choice of styles.
Electric garage doors are available, these are operated by hand held electronic controls from your car.
All garage doors are provided with special garage door locks and garage door openers.
Roller shutter or section garage doors can be fitted to custom made prefab garages for taller vehicles, 4 x 4s, coaches, ambulances etc.
You will need to allow 6/9in to the height of the custom garages for the roller garage doors to roll up when opened.
Section doors slide up into the building under the roof supports and therefore do not detract from the height clearance of the door.
Personnel Garage Doors
Timber or steel personnel doors can be fitted into any section, other than the corners and can be custom made to open either to the left or to the right, allowing you easy access into your garage or garage conversion.
Garage Conversions
You can have a garage conversion done to incorporate an office into one end of your prefabricated concrete garage.

Garage Roofs
The roofs on modern prefab concrete garages is usually corrugated cement fibre although plastic coated steel roofs and translucent sheets are available if preferred.
Garage Shelving and Racking
Racking and special garage shelving can be provided for your garage equipment and garage storage.
Garage Flooring
A concrete base with a minimum of 4in. thick in the centre and a 6in thick x 6in. wide outer rim where the weight of the concrete panels will rest, this will provide a good garage floor. The base needs to be 6in. larger than the prefab concrete garage you intend to buy, giving you 3in all round, allowing you to point with cement if you want.
If you require a smooth finishto your garage floor you can hire a special motorized tool from your local tool hire company to give a smooth finish to the concrete.
Prefab Concrete Sheds
Prefabricated concrete sheds are made in the same way as their big brothers, these can be fitted with either timber or steel doors and timber or PVCu windows and are available in apex or pent styles.
